Come descrivi il livello di azione che vedremo nel film di "Conan"?
È azione da stuntman di vecchia scuola. Veri stunt, e poca CG. Abbiamo fatto la maggior parte delle cose concretamente. Gli attori ci si sono buttati alla grande e hanno imparato alcune mosse pazzesche. Sia Jason [Momoa] che Rachel [Nichols] si sono sforzati al massimo in "Conan".
Come si svolge il lavoro di uno stunt in un film come "Conan"? Puoi descriverci la preparazione di una sequenza e quali direttive vi davano i coordinatori degli stunt e Jonathan Eusebio (fight coordinator) prima di girarne una?
La squadra di 87eleven ha preparato e impostato varie scene di lotta a Los Angeles prima di partire per la Bulgaria. Questi duelli sono idee generali e di solito ci si rimette mano quando gli attori e gli stunts fanno le prove. Jojo è molto bravo a riguardo, sa che le coreografie migliori sono preparate sulle capacità degli attori e su ciò che riescono a fare meglio. Alcuni sono mancini, altri sono bravi con i calci, ecc. Come in molti grosse produzioni, a volte l'azione ti viene comunicata solo pochi momenti prima. Senza preparazione. Questo film non ha fatto eccezione. Tra gli esperti stuntman americani e i talentuosissimi ragazzi bulgari, hanno fatto tutti ben più di quanto ci si aspettasse, con delle scene epiche in Conan.
Come è stato lavorare con Rachel Nichols e con il resto del cast, incluso il gruppo di voi stunt?
Rachel è grandiosa. Era divertentissimo averla sul set per le battaglie e le cavalcate. Sarete sorpresi quando vedrete le cose che è riuscita a fare. Ha davvero spaccato. Anche Jason è stato incredibile. Maneggiava le spade come un professionista e ha interpretato personalmente tutte le battaglie. Ha padroneggiato le coreografie molto in fretta e vi ha completamente immerso il suo personaggio. È stato divertentissimo da guardare
Hai lavorato principalmente negli studios che si trovavano a Sofia o anche in scene girate in esterni? Quanto tempo hai lavorato sulla pellicola?
Per me le riprese sono durate circa tre mesi, la maggior parte delle quali in esterni. Il tempo era piuttosto brutto e le situazioni fangose, ma ha reso le riprese grandiose!
Immagino tu abbia utilizzato diverse armi, puoi descriverci quali? Con quale ti sei trovata meglio?
Non sono un'artista delle arti marziali, ma mi piace combattere. Negli anni ho studiato varie tecniche e armi a seconda del film. In questo c'erano molti spadoni e quindi ci siamo allenati principalmente con quelli. Assillavo Jojo tutto il tempo perché mi insegnasse! Questo è il terzo film che facciamo insieme. È il migliore!
Hai seguito un allenamento speciale per l'utilizzo di queste armi?
La miglior scuola viene dalle persone che ti stanno intorno. In Bulgaria un sacco di stuntman erano campioni di Samba [una tecnica di combattimento a mani libere est-europea e russa, n.d.r.], i ragazzi americani di Tae Kwon Do, di Aikido e Wushu. Quindi c'è l'opportunità di imparare qualcosa da ognuno di loro ed è il modo migliore per imparare, in più ti dà qualcosa da fare nei tempi morti sul set.
Sei sia un'attrice che una stuntwoman, in quale ruolo ti senti più a tuo agio?
Sono una performer! Sono molto a mio agio con l'azione e mi piace recitare. Credo che sia come essere un cantante/attore o un ballerino/attore. Sono artisti a tutto tondo. Più abilità si hanno e meglio è!
Hai partecipato a diversi film e serie tv tratti da fumetti (Smallville, Fantastic Four 2, X-Men 3), quale tra questi personaggi ti è rimasto più impresso? Perché?
Adoro il Magneto di McKellen. Era così affascinante, profondamente emotivo e malvagio allo stesso tempo. Mi è piaciuto interpretare il personaggio di Mystica perché per il suo carattere triste e interessante. Era abbastanza facile percepire il suo dolore, dopo sei ore di trucco all'una di notte per essere sul set alle sei! Ho un debole anche per Wolverine, perchè è così figo (tosto) e sexy!!!
Parlando di Smallville, come è stato entrare a far parte di un cast così consolidato?
È stato fantastico. Mi conoscevano già perchè avevo fatto la controfigura per Cassidy nell'ottava stagione. Quindi erano tutti emozionati per me e così divertenti. Ho fatto scene di lotta con Tom ed Erica e io li ho aiutati. Poi avevo scene parlate con loro e le parti si sono invertite!
Ultimamente stiamo assistendo ad una vera e propria invasione del cinema da parte dei fumetti, che ne pensi di questo? C'è qualche personaggio che ti piace particolarmente e che vorresti interpretare?
Devo dirlo??? Wonder Woman! È sempre stata la mia preferita. Non so come potrebbero calarla nel mondo di oggi, ma amavo il vecchio telefilm e i fumetti e il costume, naturalmente.
O forse un po' di più Jakita Wagner. Anche lei è molto aggressiva!

How do you describe the action level we’re going to see in the Conan movie?
Its old school hard hitting stunt action. Real stunts, not a lot of CG. We did most things practical. The actors stepped it up HUGE and learned some crazy skills. Both Jason [Momoa] and Rachel [Nichols] were ripping it up on "Conan"!
How does the stunt job carry out in a movie like Conan? Can you describe the preparation of a sequence and the guidelines you had from the coordinators and Jonathan Eusebio before shooting?
The 87eleven team prepared and outlined various fights back home in LA before heading out to Bulgaria. These fights are general ideas and usually get reworked once the actors and stunt players start rehearsing. Jojo is really smart in that he knows the best fight choreo is catered to the actors best skills and what they are most comfortable doing. Some people are lefties, some have special kicks they can throw really well, ect. As for a a lot of big movies sometimes action gets thrown at you the day or minute before. With no preparation. This movie was no exception. Between the seasoned US stunt team and the super talented Bulgarian guys everyone went above and beyond and performed some epic stunts on Conan.
What was it like to work with Rachel Nichols and the rest of the cast, other stunts included?
Rachel is awesome. She was super fun to have on set and game for fighting and riding horses. You will definitely be very surprised when you see her face doing some of the things she was doing. She rocked it out there. Jason was amazing too. He picked up sword work like a pro and he did all his fights. He picks up choreo really fast and put his character completely into it. He was a lot of fun to watch.
Did you mainly worked in the studios in Sofia or even in exterior? How long did you work on the film?
The film shoot for me was about three months. Most of that was outside. It was every kind of bad weather and muddy situation but it made the shots look great!
I suppose you used different weapons, can you describe which? Which one did you fit best?
I am not a trained Martial Artist but I love to fight. Over the years I have learned various techniques and weapons depending on the show. This show used a lot of big swords so we trained that mostly. I bug Jojo to teach me all the time! This is the third movie we worked on together. He is the best!
Did you attend a special training for the use of these weapons?
The best training is from the people around. In Bulgaria a lot of the stunt people are Samba champions, the US guys vary from Tae Kwon Do, to Akido, and Wushu. So there is an opportunity to learn something from everyone and that is the best way to learn, plus it gives something to do during downtime on set!
You are both a stunt-woman and an actress. In which role do you feel more comfortable?
I am a performer! I am very comfortable with Action, and I love to act. I think its the same as a singer/actor or dancer/actor. You are a well rounded performer. The more skills the better!
You took part to many comics-inspired films and tv series (Smallville, Fantastic Four 2, X-Men 3). Which one of these characters did impress you the most? Why?
I love Ian Mckellen's Magneto. He was so cool, deeply emotional and evil all at the same time. I enjoyed playing the Mystique character because of how interesting and sad her character is. It was pretty easy to feel her pain after going through six hours of makeup at 1Am to be ready for crew call at 6Am! I also have a soft spot for Wolverine because he is so badass and sexy!!!
Talking about Smallville, what was it like to join such a well-established cast?
It was great. They already knew me from being Cassidy's stunt double in season 8. So everyone was excited for me and they were so much fun. I had fight scenes with Tom and Erica and I would help them through it. Then I would have dialogue scenes with them and they were supporting me!
We’re recently witnessing a real invasion of comic-related movies. What do you think about this? Is there any character you particularly like a would like to play?
Do I have to say it??? Wonderwoman! She has always been my favorite. I don't know how they would put her in the modern world but I loved the old show and comics and the outfit of course. Or a bit more modern Jakita Wagner...She is pretty kick ass too!
