Ci parli del suo lavoro su Spider-Girl. Anya Corazon è appena diventata Spider-Girl, ma ha dei precedenti come supereroina… Come pensa che le sue avventure passate l'abbiano influenzata?
Anya ha avuto una partenza brusca nella sua breve carriera e gli effetti di Grim Hunt saranno abbastanza pesanti per lei, ma personalmente la vedo come il tipo di ragazza che bilancia gli orrori che ha visto con le persone da cui si è trovata ogni giorno, combattendo la battaglia giusta. Voglio che le sue fonti d'ispirazione siano gente come Spider-Man, la Donna Invisibile, Ms. Marvel e così via. Lei vuole renderli orgogliosi, così come vuole rendere orgoglioso suo padre.
Spider-Girl è anche la protagonista di Young Allies. Ci sarà un collegamento tra le due testate?
La più grande connessione sarà la sua amicizia con Rikki "Nomad" Barnes. Più che altro sto cercando di rendere indipendenti le avventure di Spider-Girl. Voglio che la sua serie sia sua, con il suo cast di personaggi e problemi. È più semplice costruire storie profonde quando si comanda tutti i pezzi sulla scacchiera.
Scriverai ancora storie per Susan Storm dopo averla resa uno dei Vendicatori principali in Marvel Adventures Book? Quale ruolo e quali interazioni avrà con Anya?
Gil Corazon, il padre di Anya, è il biografo ufficiale dei Fantastici Quattro e questo ha portato all'amicizia tra il quartetto e i Corazon. Sue ha il ruolo di mentore, ad un basso livello, ma principalmente volevo che fossero amiche. Non le immagino a far coppia nella lotta contro i criminali… piuttosto le immagino in coppia per andare a mangiare un gelato e parlare della vita. Ci sono così tante cose in comune tra i due personaggi eppure c'è un grande scarto d'esperienza, che li rende personaggi piacevoli da utilizzare.
Che genere di avventure vivrà Spider-Girl? Quali villain vedremo?
Per ora devo tacere sul nome del villain d'apertura, ma soprattutto Anya combatterà contro un'organizzazione chiamata Raven, una specie di Hydra… ma priva di un'ideologia al di là dell'avidità. Hanno contatti con diversi super-villain e Spider-Girl dovrà farsi strada con la forza per raggiungerne i vertici.
Dobbiamo aspettarci qualche apparizione del nostro amichevole Uomo Ragno di quartiere? Sembra che Grim Hunt abbia creato un legame forte tra lui e Anya…
Spider-Man sarà decisamente nei paraggi, e il suo ruolo, sia nella vita di Anya che di Spider-Girl, crescerà. Al di là di suo padre, Spider-Man è la persona a cui Anya fa maggiormente riferimento.
Che futuro vedi per il tuo personaggio?
Voglio che si mescoli con il Marvel Universe regolare e sia parte di quello che accade nel suo mondo. Allo stesso tempo voglio che Anya sia in grado di avere una vita propria… una nicchia che contenga i suoi amici, i suoi sogni e le sue aspirazioni. Vedo davvero Spider-Girl come una storia di formazione… solo con un super-villain lungo la strada.

Anya Corazon has just become Spider-Girl, but she has some history as a super hero... How do you think her past adventure influenced her?
Anya has had a rough start so far in her short career, and the effects of the Grim Hunt will hang a bit heavy on her, but I personally see her as the type of girl that balances the horrors she's seen with the amazing people she's seen out there, fighting the good fight, every day. I want her to be inspired by such people as Spider-Man, the Invisible Woman, Ms. Marvel, and so on. She wants them, and her dad, to be proud of her.
Spider-Girl is also one of the protagonist of Young Allies. Will there be any connection between the two books?
The biggest connection is going to be her friendship with Rikki "Nomad" Barnes. Other than that, I'm going to keep Spider-Girl's adventures and world largely separate. I want her book to be distinctly her own, with her own cast of characters and troubles. It's easier to build deep stories when I command all of the chess pieces.
Will you write again the character of Susan Storm, after having made her one of the main Avengers in your Marvel Adventures Book? Which role will she have and how will she interact with Anya?
Gil Corazon, Anya's father, is the Fantastic Four's favorite interview-biographer, and a friendship between the FF and the Corazons have blossomed from that. Sue plays the part of a mentor, to a small degree, but mostly I want them to be friends. I don't see them ever teaming up to fight any villains... more teaming up to go get ice cream, and talking about life. There's so much similarity between the two characters, and yet this huge gap in experience, that it makes them fun to play with.
What kind of adventures will Spider-Girl live? Which Villain will we see?
I have to keep the opening "name" villain secret for now, but overall Anya will be fighting against an organization named Raven. Think of them as a sort of Hydra... but without any ideology besides greed. They have contacts with several super-villains, and Spider-Girl will have to fight her way through them in order to reach the top.
Should We wait for some guest appearance from the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man? It seems that the Grim Hunt forged a strong bond between him and Anya...
Spider-Man will definitely be around, and his role in both Anya's and Spider-GIrl's life will grow. Besides her father, Spider-Man is the person that Anya most looks up to.
What future do you see for your character?
I want her to mesh in with the regular Marvel Universe and be a part of what's going on in her world as a whole. At the same time, I want Anya to be able to have a life of her own... a niche that contains her friends, her own dreams and aspirations. I really see the Spider-Girl series as a coming of age story... just with a view super-villains along the way.
