Nei primi sette albi di Web of Spider-Man ha scritto dei nemici dell'Uomo Ragno. Com'è stato lavorare su questi personaggi? Quale ti è piaciuto di più?

Sono cresciuto leggendo le storie originali di Spidey di Stan Lee e Steve Ditko, quindi io sono tremendamente legato a tutti loro. È stata una serie divertente di storie perché abbiamo accoppiato ogni criminali con un grandioso disegnatore – Barry Kitson con Mysterio e Electro, Francis Portela con l'Avvoltoio, Nick Dragotta con Rhino, Jefte Paolo con Lizard. È difficile trovare il preferito con queste formazioni!

A maggio, la serie cambierà direzione, concentrandosi più sull'Uomo Ragno. Chi ha deciso per questo cambiamento, tu o gli editor?

Fondamentalmente, abbiamo terminato i criminali [ride], i criminali apparsi in The Gauntlet in realtà. Abbiamo deciso di spostare l'attenzione più su Peter e il suo ampio cast di comprimari, su alcuni in particolare come Flash Thompson o il sindaco Jameson, che non sono sotto i riflettori al momento in Amazing. Ma Peter Parker e Spider-Man sono tornati a tutto tondo come protagonisti della serie.

Come scrittore regolare di Web of Spider-Man, non ti vedremo più ai testi di Amazing Spider-Man dopo il delizioso “Red Headed Stranger”? Web sarà connesso ad Amazing?

Beh, ho avuto a mia disposizione altri numeri da allora, ma Web al momento sta prendendo la maggior parte del mio tempo sul Ragno. Ma chissà cosa riserba il futuro, giusto? Ma sì, Web continua ad essere la serie compagna di Amazing, commentando ed anticipandone gli eventi, rendendosi essenziale la lettura per tutti i fan dell'Uomo Ragno.

Nella tua prima saga sul nuovo Web of Spider-Man introdurrai un nuovo personaggio chiamato The Extremist. Che ci puoi dire di lui?

The Extremist è un vigilante con un alcune visioni politiche abbastanza estreme ed un set di poteri letali. Lui si è auto-assegnato il compito di eliminare i più grandi critici dei supereroi nei media e nella politica nel modo più violento e spettacolare possibile. Quando fa fuori uno dei più grandi detrattori televisivi dell'Uomo Ragno, Peter decide di occuparsi di fermare The Extremist. Il che è una buona idea, dopo tutto chi è il più grande detrattore del Ragno se non J. Jonah Jameson, e quanto potrà passare prima che The Extremist decida di assassinare il sindaco di New York City?

Che ruolo avrà la vita da civile di Peter Parker in questa serie?

Un grosso ruolo, Peter al momento è disoccupato e noi esploreremo come si confronterà con ciò e come influenzerà la sua vita nei panni di Spider-Man. Per fare uscire allo scoperto The Extremist, Peter userà se stesso come esca in una maniera che molti lettori troveranno sorprendente e che sfortunatamente comprometterà i suoi comprimari in maniera inattesa.

Dopo The Extremist, che tipo di storie affronterai su Web?

Io non voglio anticipare troppo, ma mi aspetterei una storia che coinvolge una certa Red-Headed Stranger che hai menzionato prima…

Parlando delle tue altre serie: dopo Fall of an Avengers, The Incredible Hercules diventerà una miniserie intitolata Prince of Power, con protagonista Amadeus Cho. Lui è un personaggio abbastanza nuovo ma sembra essere diventano molto popolare. Quale pensi sia il suo fascino?

Amadeus ha molte di quelle caratteristiche che rendono gli eroi Marvel grandi: ha una grande tragedia nella sua vita ovvero la morte dei suoi genitori. Lui ha un superpotere unico che va a braccetto con la sua personalità pungente. E come molti grandi eroi Marvel, ad esempio Johnny Storm e Spider-Man, è un adolescente che funziona meglio da solo che come sidekick.
In più, grazie agli eventi di Hercules: Fall of an Avenger, è diventato capo del gruppo Olympus prendendo il ruolo di Hercules nel mondo come cacciatore di creature mitologiche. Quindi ha una missione importante, una gigante mazza adamantina (che ha ereditato da Hercules), l'intero cast di comprimari di Incredible Hercules alle sue spalle, e un atteggiamento sarcastico. Cosa puoi volere di più da un personaggio a fumetti?

Dopo i quattro numeri di Prince of Power, quale sarà il futuro di Ercole e Cho? Li vedremo ancora?

Come abbiamo detto, quando Incredible Hercules è finito, la saga mia e di Greg Pak sta continuando, quindi sì, ci sarà una nuova serie a succedere Prince of Power. Che serie sarà…? Tieni d'occhio le solicits, amico mio!

Il primo numero di Fall of an Avenger ha fatto intuire che Ercole è stato a letto con Northstar. Era solo uno scherzo o tu e Greg Pak considerate davvero Hercules bisessuale?

Tutte le buone battute hanno un fondamento di verità, Gianluca!

In the firts seven issues of Web of Spider-Man you wrote about Spider-Man's villains. How was it to work on these characters? Which one did you like the most?

I grew up first reading the original Stan Lee and Steve Ditko Spidey stories, so I have a tremendous amount of affection for all of them. It was a fun series of stories because we paired each villain with a terrific artist -- Barry Kitson on Mysterio and Electro, Francis Portela on Vultre, Nick Dragotta on Rhino, Jefte Paolo on Lizard. It's hard to pick a favorite between that line-up!

In May, the book will change direction, focusing more on Spider-Man. Who, you or the editors, decided for this change?

Basically, we ran out of villains. (Laughs) Villains that were appearing in the Gauntlet, that is. We decided to shift the attention more to Peter and his larger supporting cast, particularly some members, like Flash Thompson or Mayor Jameson, who weren't getting the full spotlight over in Amazing. But Peter Parker and Spider-Man have returned to front and center as the main characters of the book.

As a regular writer of Web of Spider-Man, we won't see more of you on Amazing Spider-Man after your delicious "Red Headed Stranger"? Will your book be connected to Amazing?

Ha! Well, I've had a few more issues under my belt since then, but Web at the moment is taking up the majority of my Spider-Man bandwidth. Who knows what the future holds, though? But yes, Web continues to be the companion series to Amazing, commenting and previewing on the action there, making it essential reading for all Spider-Fans.

In your first saga of the new Web of Spider-Man, you will introduce a character named the Extremist. Whta can you tell us about him?

The Extremist is a vigilante with some pretty extreme (shocking, I know) political views and lethal power set. He's taken upon himself to eliminate super heroes' biggest critics in the media and politics in the most violent and spectacular way possible. When he takes out one of Spidey's main TV detractors, Peter decides to take it on himself to bring The Extremist down. Which is a good idea -- after all, who's a bigger hater of super heroes than J. Jonah Jameson, and it doesn't take The Extremist long to decide he's going to assassinate the mayor of New York City.
 
What role will Peter Parker's life as civilian have in your book?

A huge role. Peter is currently unemployed, and we explore how he deals with that and how it impacts his life as Spider-Man. To draw out The Extremist, Peter decides to use himself as bait in a way that most readers will find pretty surprising -- and unfortunately jeopardizes his supporting cast in an unexpected way. 

After The Extremist, with what kind of story you will deal on Web?

I don't want to give too much away, but I would expect a major storyline involving a certain Red-Headed Stranger you mentioned earlier...

Talking about your other book: after "Fall Of An Avenger", The Incredible Hercules will became a miniseries titled Prince Of Power, starring Amadeus Cho. He is a quite new character, but it seems that he grows quit popular. What you think are his strong points?

Amadeus has many of the main traits that make Marvel heroes great: He's had a great tragedy in his life in the death of his parents. He has a unique super power that matches his acerbic personality. And, like so many great Marvel heroes, like Johnny Storm or Spider-Man, he's a teen character that works better on his own than as a sidekick.

Plus, thanks to the events of Hercules: Fall of an Avenger, he's become head of the Olympus Group and taken on the rule of Hercules in the world: as the chief slayer of mythological beasts in the world. So he has a strong mission, a gigantic adamantine mace (which he inherited from Hercules), the complete Incredible Hercules supporting cast backing him up, and a snarky attitude. What more could you want from a comics hero?

After the four issues of Prince of Power, what will be the future of Hercules and Cho? We will see again them?

As we said when Incredible Hercules ended, me and Greg's saga is continuing. So yes, there will be a new series to succeed Prince of Power. What will that series be...? Keep watching the solicits, my friend! 


In the first number of "Fall of An Avenger", it was heavily hinted that Hercules lied with Northstar. This was only a joke or Greg Pak and you really mean Hercules to be bisexual?
