Jeff Parker, Fall of the Hulks

Bentornato su Comicus, Mr. Parker. Stavolta parliamo di "Fall of Hulks".
In Fall of Hulks Alpha hai scritto sull'Intelligentsia… di solito le storie a fumetti fanno largo uso di combattimenti e "muscoli": com'è stato lo scrivere di cervello e intelligenza?

Quelli sono due temi che si prestano bene ad essere in competizione e trovato che con un loro equilibrio si ha una storia migliore di una tutta combattimento o lotta psicologica. Questo si adatta bene ad Hulk perché Bruce Banner è uno dei personaggi più intelligenti così come Hulk è uno dei più forti.

Ora abbiamo tre She-Hulk: Jennifer, Lyra e Red Hulk. Come descriveresti le differenze tra questi personaggi?

Jen Walters, la She-Hulk originale, è davvero una donna comune, tenendo conto che è verde e può sollevare un palazzo. È molto razionale e pensa come un avvocato. È sempre dalla parte di suo cugino Bruce Banner anche quando nessun altro lo è.
Lyra è diversa dalla maggior parte delle donne, viene da un mondo del futuro dove uomini e donne sono in guerra tra loro e fu creata apposta per essere la campionessa della sua fazione. Ma proprio perché è l’unica tra loro ad avere un padre (vale a dire Hulk) non è stata mai pienamente accettata. Ora sta cercando di ricostruirsi una vita qui, nel mondo di suo padre, ma tutti naturalmente vogliono il suo potere per soddisfare i propri fini. Lei vuole semplicemente scoprire cosa voglia dire una vita normale da ragazza. Anche se è una grande guerriera, questa non è la sua dote principale.
La She-Hulk rossa è un mistero, ma una cosa è chiara: gode del caos. Fisicamente è più potente delle altre due anche se non le interessa mostrarlo a tutti. Ma scopriremo di più su di lei presto.

Riprendi il cosmic Hulk Robot dalla vecchia serie degli Eterni… lo abbiamo visto in Alpha e lo vedremo ancora nella serie di Red Hulk… Come ti è venuta l'idea di usare questo personaggio?

Volevo spiegare come per l’Intelligentsia fosse un grande affare poterne avere il controllo a da qualche parte ho iniziato a parlare di altri robot costruiti senza un piano preciso riguardante il come portarli in vita, come Dragon Man. Mi stavo chiedendo come gli scienziati potessero fare tali cose e mi venne in mente il “proto-araldo” di Galactus.

Stai lavorando su una saga ideata in origine da altri scrittori. Quanta libertà hai avuto sulla storyline?

Devo attenermi al progetto che Jeph Loeb e Greg Pak hanno concordato per la maggiore, ma riesco ad avere un sacco di spazio per decidere come qualcosa debba accadere. Sono ben disposti verso le mie idee, almeno fino a quando le mie idee non stravolgeranno l’intero piano!

Di cosa parlerà la serie di Red Hulk? Rivelerà la vera identità del personaggio?

Riguarderà più da vicino le relazioni nascoste che lo legano agli altri personaggi e spiegherà sulla nuova serie di Hulk le trame in essere fin da prima. La rivelazione della sua identità segreta avverrà su questa testata. Ma potrete vedere che la mini di Red Hulk conterrà diverse tracce al riguardo.

Red Hulk è cattivo, violento, ma sembra piacere al lettore. In cosa pensi risieda il suo fascino?

Penso che sotto molti punti di vista ricopra lo stesso ruolo che il primo Hulk ebbe quando uscì negli anni ’60.
Non era amichevole, aveva in simpatia solo Rick e diede un sacco di grane ai supereroi. Era a tutti gli effetti una variabile impazzita, non potevi sapere cosa stesse per fare e così c’era sempre un’atmosfera di pericolo. Red Hulk funziona così tranne che fa i suoi calcoli e ha un’agenda.

Nel frattempo, cosa succederà agli Agent of Atlas? Dopo i Vendicatori, gli X-men e i Thuderbolts, incontreranno altri personaggi?

Il gruppo tornerà a maggio su di una nuova serie in preparazione, chiamata semplicemente Atlas. Gabriel Hardman sarà ancora l’artista principale sebbene ci saranno storie secondarie, e penso che Giancarlo Caracuzzo lavorerà su queste. Attualmente sta disegnato la storia su Gorilla-Man che Jason Aaron ha scritto per Avengers Vs Atlas #4 ed è splendida!
Quindi mi auguro che i lettori tengano informate le loro fumetterie che Atlas #1 è in arrivo. Siamo molto eccitati per la nostra storia che vedrà protagonista 3-D Man.

Welcome back on Comicus, Mr. Parker, this time to talk about "Fall Of Hulks".
In Fall of Hulks Alpha you wrote about The Intelligentsia... usually in comic books stories are based on fights and muscle: gow was to write something about brain and cleverness?

Those two subjects play off each other well, and often make a better balance than a story that's all battle or all cerebral pursuits. And it fits the Hulk well because as Bruce Banner he's one of the smartest people, as Hulk the strongest.

Now we have three She-Hulk: Jennifer, Lyra and Red She-Hulk. How should you describe the difference between this characters?

Jen Walters, the original She-Hulk, is truly as normal a woman as you can find, considering she's green and can lift a building. She is very rational, and thinks like a lawyer. She has always been supportive of her cousin Bruce Banner even when no one else has.
Lyra is different from most women, she's from a future world where men and women are at war with each other, and was specifically created to be a champion of her people. But because she's the only one of them who actually had a father- who is The Hulk- they never fully accepted her. Now she's trying to carve out a life for herself here in her dad's world, but of course everybody wants her power for their own ends. In truth, she wants to find out what a normal life for a young woman is. Though she's a great warrior, it's not her defining trait.
Red She-Hulk, is a mystery, but one thing is clear: she enjoys chaos. She's physically more powerful than the other two she-hulks, and doesn't mind showing everyone. But we're going to find out more about her before long.

You recover the cosmic Hulk Robot from the old eternals book... We have seen him in Alpha and we will see more in the Red Hulk book... How you had the idea to use this character?

I wanted to explain why he was such a big deal for the Intelligentsia to have control of, and somewhere I started thinking about other robots that were created without a plan as to how they would come to life, like Dragon Man. I was wondering why scientists would make such things and then the Proto-Herald of Galactus came to me.

You are working with a saga originally planned by other writers. How much freedom did you had on the storyline?

I do have to stick to the plan that Jeph Loeb and Greg Pak agreed on mostly, but I find a lot of room to build into what happens. They're open to my ideas- as long as my ideas don't change the whole plan!

What the Red Hulk book will be about? It will reveal the character real identity?

It really fills in more about his secret relationships with other characters and explains mysterious happenings from earlier in the new Hulk book. The reveal of his human self will happen in that book. But you'll see that the Red Hulk mini gave a lot of clues to that.

Red Hulk is mean, violent, uppiti, but he seems to appeal the reader. What do you think is his charm?

I think in a lot of ways, he fills the same role that the original Hulk did when he arrived in the 1960's. He wasn't friendly, he only liked Rick, he gave a lot of heroes trouble. He was really a wildcard character, you didn't know what he was going to do, so there was always a sense of menace. Red Hulk works that way, only he's calculating and has an agenda.

Meanwhile, what will happen to the Agent of Atlas? After the Avengers, The X-men and the Thuderbolts, they will meet any other character?

The team return to a new ongoing series in May, simply called Atlas. Gabriel Hardman will continue as lead artist, though we will have back up stories too, and I think artist Giancarlo Caracuzzo will be appearing there. He's now drawing the Gorilla-Man story that Jason Aaron wrote for Avengers Vs Atlas #4, and he's terrific!
So I hope readers let their comics stores know that Atlas #1 is on the way. We're very excited about our first story, featuring the 3-D Man.
