Al The Walt Disney Company Annual Meeting of Shareholders, Bob Iger, CEO della Disney ha annunciato a sorpresa importanti dettagli sul franchise Star Wars e in particolare sull'8° capitolo della saga e sul primo spin-off.
Il film si intitolerà Star Wars: Rogue One e sarà scritto da Chris Weitz e diretto da Gareth Edwards e avrà come protagonista Felicity Jones, recentemente nominata agli Oscar. L'arrivo è previsto per il 16 dicembre 2016.

L'idea della pellicola arriva da John Knoll, supervisore di effetti speciali e chief creative officer della Industrial Light & Magic, che produrrà esecutivamente il film insieme a Simon Emanuel e Jason McGatlin. Produttori saranno invece Kathleen Kennedy e Tony To, mentre John Swartz sarà co-produttore.

Per quanto riguarda l'ottavo capitolo, Star Wars: Episode VIII sarà diretto e sceneggiato da Rian Johnson e approderà sui grandi schermi il 26 maggio 2017 nelle sale americane, 40 anni e un giorno dopo l'uscita nel 1977 del primo capitolo, Star Wars: una nuova speranza.

Vi avevamo già riportato che venerdì un trailer di 88'' di Star Wars: The Force Awakens verrà distribuito in alcuni cinema della Regal Entertainment Group. Ora, tramite l'account ufficiale Twitter di Star Wars, sappiamo che il trailer verrà diffuso anche online lo stesso giorno attraverso iTunes Trailer. A questo punto, non ci resta che attendere.
