La Marvel ci riprova. Dopo il licenziamento di Bill Jemas, primo patrocinatore della nuova linea Epic (fallita miseramente nelle intenzioni), sembrava che la casa editrice avesse accantonato definitivamente l'idea di aprire un sottomarchio per le creazioni personali degli autori, quelle serie cosidette "creator owned", con maggiore libertà creativa, proprietà dei diritti da parte dei creatori e spesso ambientazioni e personaggi lontani dai canoni supereroistici.

Due autori legati in esclusiva alla Marvel e simbolo della casa editrice, il disegnatore John Romita JR e lo scrittore Mark Millar avevano portato i propri progetti personali, rispettivamente The Grey Area e l'intero universo narrativo MIllarworld presso altri editori. Sembrava fosse il colpo di grazia definitivo verso la Casa delle Idee e la volontà di rilanciare la Epic, marchio storico che negli anni '80, nella sua prima versione, ci regalò fumetti d'autore indimenticabili e versione mature degli eroi Marvel (su tutti, ELEKTRA: ASSASSIN).

Ieri la Marvel ha confermato alcune voci che giravano già da un po': Powers di Brian Bendis (uno degli scrittori più impegnati alla Marvel) & Mike Oeming (quest'ultimo da poco nominato nuovo scrittore di Thor a seguire della lunga run di Dan Jurgens) e Kabuki di David Mack (in dirittura d'arrivo su una qualche serie degli X-Men) passeranno alla Marvel dalla Image Comics, e verranno pubblicati sotto il nuovo marchio "ICONS" a partire da luglio, ricominciando la numerazione.

Evidentemente, all'entusiasmo degli autori per questa nuova avventura si è accompagnato il disappunto di Erik Larsen, da poco nominato nuovo presidente della Image Comics, che in una dichiarazione ufficiale, dopo aver detto che "la Marvel, nel suo tipico modo di fare, non cerca di innovare ma di copiare," dice che "mentirei se dicessi che non sono preoccupato del futuro di Brian, Mike e David e delle loro creazioni. Non posso aiutarli ma sento che questa è certamente una mossa non saggia per questi autori, ma supportare i diritti degli autori significa anche supportare il loro diritto di scelta."

La Image continuerà a vendere gli arretrati degli albi e le loro raccolte in volume e a detta di Bendis, continuerà a trattare le loro edizioni estere, cosa che dovrebbe garantire una certa continuità editoriale anche nel nostro paese, dove attualmente è la Magic Press (e non la Panini Comics, licenziataria esclusiva Marvel) a pubblicare i volumi di Powers (giunto al terzo tomo) e Kabuki (il cui primo volume è uscito poche settimane fa). In ogni caso, dipenderà dal grado di libertà di Benids, Oeming e Mack nel trattare i diritti delle pubblicazioni che hanno creato a decretare il fato delle edizioni estere delle due serie.

Sesto appuntamento per l’antologico targato DC… e giro di boa per le nostre collane! Nella sezione dedicata a Batman, troviamo il Cavaliere Oscuro impegnato a sventare un attacco frontale da parte del Joker e di Arlecchina, con conseguenze davvero inaspettate, soprattutto per alcuni personaggi cardine della serie. Il tutto, come al solito, magnificamente orchestrato da Jeph Loeb & Jim Lee, il “dinamico duo” che sta facendo vivere a Batman una vera e propria seconda giovinezza! Mark Waid & Lenil Francis Yu continuano invece la loro opera di “revisione” delle origini dell’Uomo d’Acciaio con l’appassionante Superman: Rinascita, il serial che prosegue idealmente le avventure del telefilm “Smallville”. In questo episodio veniamo a conoscenza del fatto che Lex Luthor potrebbe essere in possesso di alcune informazioni pericolose per il nostro Clark… e Lois è già pronta a fare lo scoop della sua vita! Con grande rammarico da parte sia nostra che di tutti i lettori, con questo numero si conclude una delle miniserie più belle e divertenti dell’anno, ovvero Quelli che un tempo erano la Justice League, che ha chiamato a raccolta davvero tanti appassionati! Ma non vi preoccupate, non tratta di un addio, piuttosto di un arrivederci… Booster e Co. hanno promesso che torneranno su queste pagine entro breve!
